Darkness Falls...

Greetings from the ferocious aeons, and the new Dark Age... It is time for
the shadows to fall once more, shadowing the deepening sky, and the Armies of
the Night to rise as infinity dimly fades into an epic eternal night.

So let the stars burn for evermore. And let us enter STRANGER AEONS. Enjoy,
tribes of chaos. Hail Darkness, and God.

Grit your teeth, and DARE it! Grim journeys...

to recent events...

THE END RECORDS news... The label is very proud to announce that they have
signed WINDS from Norway for the territories of North and South America.
WINDS play a seamless, ethereal mix of classically oriented metal, fronted
with clean vocals, dark progressive guitars, philharmonic instruments,
classical piano, and synths. It's a spiraling symbiosis of dazzling melodies
and intricate arrangements. The band consists of: Lars Eric Si on vocals (he
won a Norwegian Grammy Award in 2000 for his amazing vocal talents), Carl
August Tidemann on guitars (his exceptional guitar skills ranging with
influences from rock/metal, classical and jazz), Jan Axel von Blomberg on
drums (also known as Hellhammer, who won 2 Norwegian Grammy Awards and played
in an array of cult metal bands), and Andy Winter on keyboards (a virtuoso in
classical music). Their new, highly anticipated album, which is already
recorded and entitled "Reflections Of The I," will be released in April.

"'Human Consumes Human' by Homo Iratus"
                            Bill Vogel III

November 21, 2001 A.D.

Brutality-thy name be Homo Iratus. Greek Deathcore (Death/Metalcore) freaks
Homo Iratus have finally hit the U.S. shores with their North American debut,
"Human Consumes Human" [Arctic/Crash, Inc. Records]. This is a truly
bludgeoning display of controlled psychosis.

Their sound welds together efficient, energetic samples; intelligible
guttural roars; sludgy, massive rivers of guitar slag; and catchy rhythms
into a brilliantly mesmerizing assault of cataclysmic proportions. Few bands
can pull this chore off successfully, but Homo Iratus does it masterfully.
The most devastating cuts include the slashing whirl of "Sonus In Terrorem,"
the explosive "Hideousness Show," "Crawling Principles," the hammering,
mechanical beat of "Life-Like Violence," and "Slavery/Freedom." This is
mayhem at its best...and its purest.

In summary, Homo Iratus obliterates. Isn't that reason enough? Stay savage.

                  "'Alien Breed' by Internal Bleeding"
                            Bill Vogel III

November 30, 2001 A.D.

There's nothing like a classic. The new release by Internal Bleeding, called
"Alien Breed" [Olympic Records], is a compilation of rare demo materials
(including the infamous "One Dollar Demo" cuts) and the new title track.
This one is a classic.

Internal Bleeding is a serious monster in the new school Death Metal scene.
Mixing clean and growled vocals, they fuse brutal Death Metal intensity with
Hardcore rhythms and catchy, driven arrangements. The result is a
cataclysmic beauty-dark, deep, and serrated.

The best tracks include the caustic stomp of "Epoch Of Barbarity,"
"Genocide," the fragmentational rage of "Beyond The Gates Of Tartarus,"
"Conformed To Obscurity," "Inhuman Suffering," and the new epic "Alien
Breed." All of them obliterate.

In conclusion, Internal Bleeding is a serious threat to the conformist sheep
mentality. They are truly, bloodily great. Stay savage. Farewell.

                         "'Oracle' by Kittie"
                            Bill Vogel III

November 29, 2001 A.D.

Those Aggro-she-devils in Kittie are back! (Minus the lovely and talented
Fallon...) Their new opus, titled "Oracle" [Artemis Records], is a powerful
discharge of forceful audio radiance.

Their progression to brutality has continued, as the trademark Kittie style
of melodious Goth/Aggro Metal has evolved into a more ferocious sound. Don't
worry, the melodic quality is still here-there is just a greater emphasis
placed on their harder, Death-tinged Aggro ensembles.

Massive tempo shifts swing between the crunchy, growled bombastic portions
and the quieter, moody ones. The most killer tracks include the visceral
"Mouthful Of Poison," "Severed," the raw-nerved edge of "What I Always
Wanted," "Wolves," and the brilliant Pink Floyd cover "Run Like Hell."

In summation, Kittie has created another epic work. "Oracle" is the bestial
vision of the glorious future. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'So Sedated, So Secure' by Darkest Hour"
                            Bill Vogel III

November 17, 2001 A.D.

Uniqueness is the lightning that makes a brutal band glow. One truly unique
Metal act is the ferocious band Darkest Hour. Their latest slab is called
"So Sedated, So Secure" [Victory Records], and it's their best offering yet.

Darkest Hour's style is a visceral hybrid of intense Swedish Death Metal and
dynamic Hardcore. It's a brilliant and brutal combination of shredding
guitars, shrill growled vocals, and blunt Hardcore rhythms. The result is
pure, beautiful mayhem.

It's raging.

The most killer tracks include the primal "The Hollow," "An Epitaph," the
rampaging "Treason In Trust," "A Cold Kiss," and "Another Reason." Darkest
Hour is sheer intensity unbound.

In final words, Darkest Hour is an innovative, talented, and powerful force.
Embrace their anger. Stay savage. Farewell.

                    "'Ageless Venomous' by Krisiun"
                            Bill Vogel III

November 8, 2001 A.D.

"The Seers of Abomination" is the translation for the Latin word Krisiun.
This Brazilian band's name suits them well. And now the trio has released
their greatest opus to date, the cunning and complex "Ageless Venomous"
[Century Media Records].

It's a blasting, brimstone breathing display of hook crawling Blackened Death
Metal brilliance. Catchiness was not sacrificed for aggression-the 2 are
welded together into a jagged, razor-sharp snarling beast. Krisiun is
masterful at this process.

When it comes to Blackened Death Krisiun is the best, and the beast.

The most killer tracks include the vicious "Ravenous Hordes," "Saviour's
Blood," the explosive concussion of "Eyes Of Eternal Scourge,"
"Perpetuation," and the skull-smashing mayhem of the title track. Krisiun
has no weaknesses.

In summation, "Ageless Venomous" is a milestone in Blackened Death Metal.
Krisiun destroys! Stay savage. Farewell.

has at last released the second effort by his Death/Industrial project.
Title "Rebirth" [Renegade Records], it continues the progression from their
masterful debut.

The Death Metal influence is still very slight here, and a stronger Techno
inflection has taken hold. But even with that, this is still a Metal release
having plenty of lead-weighted crunch to make it great. Pain is not one
those "other" Industrial acts...

Pain destroys.

The best cuts include the cyber-shredding "Supersonic Bitch," "Parallel To
Ecstasy," the morose crunch of "Dark Fields Of Pain," "Crashed," and "End Of
The Line." It's heavy, electronic chaos with a truly brutal beauty.

Overall, this is a stunning and powerful opus. So jack-in for some Pain.
Stay savage. Farewell.

                    "'Supercharger' by Machine Head"
                            Bill Vogel III

October 25, 2001 A.D.

Evolution is inevitable. The band Machine Head made a major change of style
on their last album "Burning Red." It was a massive schism from their Power
Thrash roots-less grungy and aggressive, and more melodic with bursts of
Rapcore. That being said, it was a good work that had to be measured on its
own merits.

Now Machine Head has returned with "Supercharger" [Roadrunner Records]. The
trendier elements are gone now, but the melodic quality is still strong. The
sound is dense but beautiful, giving it a modern, crisp feel while stepping a
little closer to that original Machine Head kick and growl.

The best tracks include the weighty eloquence of "Crashing Around You," the
melodious crunch of "Kick You When You're Down," "Sick Of You,"
"Trephination," and the stomp of "All In Your Head." Every song has it's own
bestial glory.

In conclusion, this is not the old Machine Head but don't let that dissuade.
If you do, you'll miss a great display of Melodic Thrash Metal. Some things
are worth a paradigm shift. Stay savage. Farewell.

                    "'Darkness And Hope' by Moonspell"
                             Bill Vogel III

September 6, 2001 A.D.

Born of a dark flickering, Portuguese act Moonspell began as a Doomdeath
Metal outfit. Over time a Gothic nuance grew into a major sound. Today
Moonspell is a Death tinged Gothic Metal phenomenon, one of the biggest in
fact. Their latest album, "Darkness And Hope" [Century Media Records], is
their best work in several years.

Showing an even more aesthetic skill for the style, their sound is darker and
more melancholic. Sometimes the clean Goth vocals are a little overwrought,
but the sparsely used bursts of Death growls are an exceptional contrast.
Keyboards, and organs thicken the sound as guitar solos display a virtuoso's

The best cuts include the abysmal "Nocturna," "How We Became Fire," the
atmospheric "Ghostsong," "Made Of Storm," and "Heartshaped Abyss." The very
best one though is their dread-soaked cover of Ozzy Osbourne's "Mr. Crowley"-
the pipe-organs add a freaky, cool ambience to this classic.

In summary, this is a very good slab of Gothic Metal. It's as dark as it is
hopeful. Farewell.

"'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (Soundtrack)"
                            Bill Vogel III

November 17, 2001 A.D.

Once in a while, they will surprise you. The latest videogame soundtrack
opus, "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3" [Maverick Records], is a savvy compilation
of current greats (and soon to be greats) from the Metal/Hardcore music

Cuts of exceptional note include the powerful Melodic Hardcore stomp of "New
World Order" by Onesidezero, the aggrevated Moodcore punch of Papa Roach's
"Infest," the sardonic Punk sneer of NOFX's "What's The Matter With Parents
Today?," the Hardcore wallop of "Who's On Your Side" by the legendary
Pennywise, and the ferocious yet beautiful Melodic Hardcore of Pressure 4-5's
"Melt Me Down." Plus there's tracks by Drowning Pool, Alien Ant Farm, Sum
41, Hometown Hero, Millencolin, and the Deftones.

Overall, this one kickin' little assemblage of modern Metal angst. It's
timely, yet timeless. Take charge... Farewell.

                             Bill Vogel III

November 7, 2001 A.D.

From the files of the raw and the ready... The new live CD by Death, titled
"Live In L.A." [Nuclear Blast Records], is a roughly hewn yet shimmering
moment captured from the existence of the Kings of Death Metal.

Even with the rough production values Death roars powerfully. Charging
through classics including "Zombie Ritual," "Spirit Crusher," "Pull The
Plug," and "Together As One" they leave a wake of pure destruction.

This release is a jagged slag, but a definite must for the true Death freak.
Death always deserves respect. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'Welcome To The Downside' by Speak No Evil"
                             Bill Vogel III

November 2, 2001 A.D.

The band Speak No Evil has a different slant on modern Metal dynamics. Their
new release, "Welcome To The Downside" [Universal Records], is a powerful and
unique mixture of the classic as well as the current. Snarling their teeth
musically-they fuse Aggro, Melodic Hardcore, and Classic Metal into a
brilliant din of aggression.

Vocals range from a melodious howl to lower intensity growls. The guitar
work shifts from groove-dredging chunky blasts to virtuoso style solos. It's
sound is vast, cohesive, and incredibly cool.

The best cuts include the melodic angst of "15 (Live My Life)," "Riddle,"
"Downside," and the wild anger of "Get It Straight." The ground is diverse,
and intense.

In summary, Speak No Evil created an impassioned and visceral opus that
storms some interesting territory. So the downside ain't always bad. Stay
savage. Farewell.

"'The Dreadful Hours' by My Dying Bride"
                             Bill Vogel III

November 29, 2001 A.D.

When it comes to sheer Gothic darkness, few acts are as glorious as My Dying
Bride. Their new opus, "The Dreadful Hours" [Peaceville Records], is a
beautifully morose work of atmospheric drear. My Dying Bride has greatly
changed since their early days as one of the finest Doomdeath Metal bands

Now they are pure melancholic Gothic Metal-clean, sorrowful howls exchanged
for utter growls. They use violins, and other mournful instruments to add to
the gloomy nuance of their metallic dirge. ...And it is good.

The most powerful of these dimly lit epics include the sullen "Raven And The
Rose," "A Cruel Taste Of Winter," the stark "Black Heart Romance," and "My
Hope The Destroyer." The 8 cuts contained in this slab are radiant epitaphs
made for the dark hearts.

In conclusion, My Dying Bride has created yet another great work of artistic
dread. Stay dark. Farewell.

"'Coming Of Age' by Breaking Point"
                             Bill Vogel III

November 6, 2001 A.D.

Welcome to the stressor-or the Breaking Point. This band of Memphis
musicians have released their talented debut, titled "Coming Of Age" [Wind-Up
Records]. What separates Breaking Point from every other Alternative Hard
Rock band out there? Attitude.

It seems these are good days for Melodic Hard Rock. There have been several
great bands that have emerged from this substrata as of late. And Breaking
Point is one of the best.

Memorable tracks include "Angry Side," the ultra melodious title track,
"Falling Down," "27," "Get Up," and "Phoenix." Subject matter ranges from
the anger and despair of suicide to abuse. This is not your typical fluffy
Rock album.

If you want something hard, but not brutal then this one is for you. A
different road taken steels the heart and sharpens the spirit. Breaking
Point is worth a listen. Farewell.

"'Almost Heathen' by Karma To Burn"
                             Bill Vogel III

October 25, 2001 A.D.

In the subgenre of Instrumental Psychedelic Metal few bands can match the
southern dirge of the mighty Karma To Burn. They are the very best at it,
and their latest opus "Almost Heathen" [Spitfire Records] perfectly
illustrates the reasons why. Deep, heavy guitars and leaded rhythms are
dredged up from the utter abyss of the soul. And it rocks!

Every song is named after a number, which makes the tracks less distinct
mentally. But each one deconstructs the atmosphere brilliantly, cutting deep
grooves with pounding, trippy nuances. They put the 'psycho' into

In the end, it's all about result. And with Karma To Burn it's always dark,
heavy, and superb. Black Sabbath would be proud to call these sons of the
south as some of their own. After all, they are the Fathers of Psychedelic
Doom. Stay savage. Farewell.

                   "'Lunar Poetry' by Nokturnal Mortum"
                             Bill Vogel III

November 6, 2001 A.D.

There's nothing like getting hold of a classic... One such recently
reissued, and revitalized, opus is Nokturnal Mortum's debut "Lunar Poetry"
[The End Records]. Originally released in 1996, this slab was the Slavonic
Folk Black Metal act's first venture into the avant-garde darkness that is
Nokturnal Mortum.

Unusual folk instruments impale solid, Black Metal. Vocals cover a diverse
spectrum-featuring spoken passages, whispers, shrieks, and utter abysmal
growls. It's forceful, poetic, and jaggedly beautiful from start to finish.
The most killer cuts include "Carpathian Mysteries," the epic "...And Winter
Becomes," the powerful "Sorrows Of The Moon" (a Celtic Frost cover), and the
11 minute saga "Return Of The Vampire Lord" (an added bonus track). These
are the dirge's of a funereal moon, and they are incredible.

In eulogy, Nokturnal Mortum is a bizarre, intense, and fantastic band that
should enthrall any Black Metal fanatic. So let the lunar poetry begin.
Stay savage. Farewell.
