Darkness Falls...

Prelude...

Greetings from the Darkness. It is time for the shadows to fall as infinity
dimly fades into eternity, as we enter the epoch of a new Dark Age. Let us
enter STRANGER AEONS. Enjoy, tribe. Hail Darkness, and God.

Again, there were delays. I won't bore you with that. There will be a
reward for your patience, there are again extra reviews for your enjoyment
and enlightenment. Grit your teeth, and DARE it!

There was no March 2000 issue.

In the news***

PANDEMIA will be releasing their next opus, titled "Spreading The Message,"
on Lost Disciple Records. This is Old School Death Metal-surreal, savage,
and subhuman. These freaks shred!

THE WORKHORSE MOVEMENT has released their new CD called "Sons Of The
Pioneers." It features a guest appearance by rapper Esham.

VIKING CROWN, featuring Anton Crowley [a.k.a. Phil Anselmo], has released
their new CD on Necropolis Records. It is named "Innocence From Hell," and
this is some of the creepiest and coolest Black Metal I've ever heard. This
is a must! Besides VIKING CROWN, Crowley is also in the bands NECROPHAGIA
[Deathgore Metal] and CHRIST INVERSION [Black Metal].

KONKHRA has released their new opus "Come Down Cold." This is the follow-up
to their "Freakshow" EP, and it is a scorcher. Be prepared for a style
change, but it is still cool.

TAPROOT's new CD, called "Gift," will be released in July.

SACRED REICH has disbanded.

The forthcoming SOULFLY CD is called "Primitive."

DISTURBED has released a video for the track "Stupify." Their debut release
is titled "Sickness."

USURPER will be issuing a Cd of rarities and demo material named "Visions
From The Gods" (from the demo of the same title). USURPER plays manic but
masterfully slashed Death Metal that obliterates. I've heard it, and it is
really cool.

FEAR FACTORY is in the studio working on their next slab.

PARADISE LOST is working on new material for their next album.

GOB has a great cover of the Rolling Stones classic "Paint It Black" on the
soundtrack of the Horror movie "Stir Of Echoes."

Among the other terrors in this issue are REVIEWS of the following albums:

        PRIMER 55......................"Introduction To Mayhem"
        ROTTEN SOUND..................."Drain"
        SUMMON........................."Baptized In Fire"
        STUCK MOJO....................."Declaration Of A Headhunter"
        NOTRE DAME....................."Le Theatre Du Vampire"
        KATAKLYSM......................"The Prophecy (Stigmata Of The
                                             Immaculate)"
        AVULSED........................"Stabwound Orgasm"
        CORPORATION 187................"Subliminal Fear"
        TRIUMPHATOR...................."Wings Of Antichrist"

These are CDs that are sworn to brutalize without any tinge remorse, or
mercy. I offer only the best, never anything less.

Welcome to Stranger Aeons. These days are strange... Farewell.

From the pragmatic depths of America is rising a new breed of Heavy Metal
that spits razors like a moonstruck fanatic. One of these outfits is the
raging Primer 55 who has released their riotous debut CD titled "Introduction
To Mayhem" [Def Jam Records]. Their style is a primal outburst that fuses
huge loopy rhythms, blunt yet powerful guitars, and clean as well as
aggressive Rap vocals into an Aggro Rapcore Metal barrage of solidstate
angst.

This CD rocks from beginning to end, with my favorite cuts being "Set It
Off," the first single "Loose," "G's," and "Chaos." Other excellent tracks
include "Supa Freak Love," "Hate," and "The Big F*** You." There is also a
hidden bonus cut at track 55.

Overall, this is the best debut release of 2000...and it's going to be a
tough beast for another act to dethrone. Get it, and get primed. Later.

A band that definitely can stand and deliver is the ferocious Rotten Sound.
Since forming in 1993 they have taken their basic Crustcore and Grindcore
roots and built a unique siege engine to wage war against the status quo of
Metal trendiness. Their killer new CD, "Drain" [Repulse Records], adds
several brutal Metal inflections to the Grindcore barrage.

Sure there is the basic Grindcore clustered explosions of sheer speed, but
they also use Deathrock, Death, and Black Metal touches as well. Rotten
Sound makes Napalm Death sound placid. The tempo changes are massive...

The best cuts are the blistering "Dark Highway," the psychotic and concussive
"Abusement Park," and the wickedly sublime "Coldvenience."
But the very best track is "Calm," which swings from frenzied Grind to
brutal, yet catchy, Deathrock Metal rampages. It's amazing.

Rotten sound has changed greatly since their 1996 debut "Under Pressure."
This is an upgrade that shouldn't be missed. Stay evil. Farewell.

Greetings. Returning from the blackened depths of the abyss is the sunless
shadow known as Summon, with a new and ever so evil opus titled "Baptized By
Fire" [Necropolis Records]. It is a ravaging and relentless maelstrom of
utter darkness, taking Blackened Death Metal to the deepest recesses of the
night. It offers a fast, yet skillfully honed and tempered onslaught that is
both awful in its beauty and as addictive in its quality.

The best tracks include the stunning "Sons Of Wrath," the rancorous "Burning
Black Desire," and the brilliant "Visions Of Apocalyptic Grace." Summon is
an experience that should not be denied. It is a stripped down rampage of
Black Death mastery!

Overall, anyone that enjoys brutally brilliant Black Death Metal will dig
this. Summon keeps it crude, brutal, and wickedly effective. Stay evil.
Farewell Sunlight.

                              Bill Vogel III

There once was a fiery little monster of a band from Atlanta, Georgia
(U.S.A.) called Stuck Mojo. They released a monumental album called
"Snappin' Necks" that combined Aggro Rapcore Metal with Hard Rock and even
some small amounts of Death Metal. Years passed, and they released good
albums that had softened a bit and emphasized more use of melody as well as
the Hard Rock inflections. But now it's 2000 and the Stuck has returned with
a new album called "Declaration Of A Headhunter" [Century Media Records], and
with some added fire in their belly. This is their best release since
"Snappin' Necks," featuring more of that earlier rage hammered into
definition with tons of melody.

The most spiteful cuts are "Hatebreed" (my favorite), "Give War A Chance"
(another favorite of mine), "Feel It Coming Down," and "The Ward Is My
Shepherd." Some of the tracks have an almost anthemic feel to them.

Another sweet aspect to this CD is the social and political pieces, each of
which is incredibly sharp, intellectually brilliant, concise, and sometimes
even humorous. "Declaration" is a spoken word diatribe on responsibility for
self, stating "A gun is a tool just like a shovel." "An Open Letter"
confronts Jesse Jackson's actions in racial relations. These works increase
the depth of brutal truths, adding yet another dimension to the greatness of
Stuck Mojo's talents.

Heavy guitars, Rapped and Growled vocals, and intense rhythms are the calling
cards of Stuck Mojo. The Stuck is brilliant. Get this CD! The moral to
this story is 4 wolves can beat music industry pigs (those huge label
monsters) any day of the week. Stay evil. Later.

What do Dracula, Gothic, and Black Metal all have in common? The answer
would be the band Notre Dame. Their new CD, "Le Theatre Du Vampire" [Osmose
Records], has nothing to bleed from Anne Rice, but instead takes insane Black
Metal, Gothic gloom, and a wacky sense of humor and hammers them all together
into one of the most unusual releases to date.

There is a double vocal onslaught-Black Metal rasps being perpetrated by
Snowy Shaw (who also handles guitars), and female clean vocals by Vampirella.
The track "Vlad The Impaler" has Vampirella singing, in a sexy monotone, the
woes of being Dracula. It's funny and gloomy.

Other cool tracks include the hysteric and sinister "Black Birthday (Hip Hip
Hooray)" {can you say Vandal-esque?}, the comical "I Bring Nosferatu You,"
"Dusk," and "A Sleigh Ride Through Transylvanian Winterland." Who ever said
Black Metal couldn't have a sense of humor?

Overall, it's a good and unusual release that will add a new slant to any
Heavy Metal fanatic's collection. Stay evil. Farewell Sunlight.

From the northern realm of Canada come the masters of Hyperblast Death Metal,
Kataklysm. Their new CD, titled "The Prophecy (Stigmata Of The Immaculate)"
on Nuclear Blast Records, is a truly killer opus that fuses brutality, speed,
and sheer aggressive precision. Lacking the sloppy onslaught of Grindcore,
it levels a dead on barrage that exacts terrible beauty. Kataklysm is
underrated.

All of the tracks are kickin', but I most enjoyed "Stormland" which makes a
steam hammer seem gentle. I also really liked "Manifestation," "Gateway To
Extinction," and the ever so malicious "Laments Of Fear & Despair." Every
cut brutalizes with cruel efficiency.

The frenzied, rhythmic playing mixed with lunatic growls escalates the
primitive aggression of creative chaos leaving thunderstruck awe like that of
the Heavens unbound.

In summary, this CD rocks. It's fast, furious, and slams like an anvil. Any
fan of Extreme Metal and/or Death Metal should get this one. Stay evil.
Later.

From Spain comes the primal Death Metal band Avulsed, with a new CD titled
"Stabwound Orgasm" [Repulse Records]. It is a finely tempered work, mixing
raw rhythms, Middle Eastern flavored brutal guitars, and the intrinsic growls
of Dave Rotten. The guitar work of Cabra and Juancar is skillful and still
raw, heavy slag.

There are several great tracks. One of the best is the sublime instrumental
cut "Amidst The Macabre." It is heavy, eclectic, and cool. Another is
"Anthro-pet-phagus." Other essential cuts include "Nice Rotting Eyes,"
"Skinless," and "Virtual Massacre." Avulsed pushes esoteric to new levels of
artistic brutality.

Overall, this opus is killer. Death Metal fans won't be disappointed.
Avulsed crushes...simple as that! Farewell.

                              Bill Vogel III

April 5, 2000 A.D.

From the darkened depths of Sweden comes yet another cool band, Corporation
187. But what makes them different? Well, first off they don't play the
usual Swedish Metal-they played the next evolution of Holocaust Thrash
[a.k.a. Armageddon Thrash] ala Slayer, early Voivod, and Atheist. And for an
added kick in the face there is more of a Death Metal roar, as well as fast,
precision played Progressive guitar riffing in the vein of modern Progressive
Death Metal bands such as Death. The vocals are not super beastly, but they
are still cool.

The standout cuts include "Straw-Coloured Corpse," "Paralyzed," "Hope Is
Lost," "Souls," "Caught Inside Your Mind," "With Your Sins," and the title
track. The vocals are not really growly, but there is a lot of aggression.

In summary, this is a freakish slab of fast, mind-warping Holocaust Death
Thrash that I enjoyed. Corporation 187 adds some new roar to Thrash. Get
it. Stay evil. Later.

For some Black Metal is a taste difficult to acquire, and for most of those
never truly savored properly. The band Triumphator takes a different
approach the current Melodic Black Horde, opting for less Gothic ambience and
more sheer speed. On their new CD, "Wings Of Antichrist" [Necropolis
Records], they expunge any pretenses and make it fast, fast, FAST! Machine
gun rhythms and mechanized guitar leads easily keep pace with shrill Black
Metal shrieks. It all fuels and fuses the creative chaos, being both
brilliant and bombastic simultaneously.

Songs of exceptional note include the malevolent "Redeemer Of Chaos," the
blisteringly fast "Conquered Light," "Infernal Divinity," and my favorite one
named "Burn The Heart Of The Earth." Each is fast, fierce, and freakishly
cool.

In summary, this is an excellent opus. It remembers the roots of Black Metal
while still heralding the new era. Stay evil. Farewell Sunlight.

All scrivener's errors (typos) are the sole responsibility of me, B. Vogel
III. Any flak directed at other writers should be sent to me...I do not want
my friends besieged by silly crap. My views do not necessarily reflect those
of Rocknet, Compuserve, Prodigy, America Online, the World Wide Web,
Internet, the other writers, my friends, my church, my family, Jimi Hendrix,
James Hetfield, Glenn Danzig, or anyone else. So there. :)

Note to Pro-Censorship types: Bite me.

Beware of people who can do nothing but gripe, whine, and moan...by writing
or speaking trite, naive, and idiotic crap (i.e. certain members of the U.S.
Congress, and most of the White House).
